Attapulgite Clay
This difficult to pronounce but very useful clay additive is produced by our supplier ActiveMinerals.
Min-U-Gel attapulgite clays are hydrous magnesium aluminum silicate clays with gelling and rheological properties used to thicken and stabilize aqueous systems. MinU-Gel can be used alone or in conjunction with associative thickeners where a low shear thixotrope is required to support the high shear thixotropy of the associative thickener. Applications include drywall joint compounds, latex coatings, sealants and mastics and an endless list of other water-based systems.
Grades commonly used for these applications are Min-U-Gel 400 for coatings, MinU-Gel FG for the joint compound industry, and our newest grade, Actigel 208 which has a narrow particle size distribution for maximum efficiency in high performance coatings applications.
ActiGel 208 is also commonly used as a low dose mix stabilizer in concrete systems. Recommended at levels of .1% on the weight of the dry mix, ActiGel 208 improves slump and suspension in self levelling systems, precast, and SCC systems.

Responsible distribution
The use of IBC’s or Individual bulk containers for the transportation of liquid products has seen a large and rapid increase in the last several years. Many companies are unaware of the new regulations regarding the transportation of IBC’s requiring drivers to have a bulk tank variance when transporting specific amounts of gallons of product in IBC’s. Additional information regarding these new DOT regulations can be found at www.phmsa.dot.gov.
